The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is a licensed professional who works under the supervision and direction of a licensed occupational therapist (OT). The OT conducts the initial evaluation and establishes the plan of care for the patient. The COTA implements the plan of care, consulting the OT as indicated for clarification or further instruction. This position works primarily at Swain Community Hospital, but may also float to Harris Regional Hospital.
A. Education: Graduation from an accredited program of Occupational Therapy Assistant .
B. Experience: None required. One to two years experience in general hospital environment preferred.
C. Other Qualifications:
1. Position requires COTA license with NC Occupational Therapy Board.
3. BLS certification maintained
Physically, the COTA is required to assist in moving and lifting patients; to push/pull heavy objects (e.g. wheelchairs or stretchers); to stay on his/her feet for long periods; to bend and stoop; and to reach above shoulder height. Patients may vary in size from as little as 80 pounds to as large as 400 pounds and may be totally dependent in all aspects of daily living or relatively independent. There is limited exposure to infectious materials and diseases.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
